If I have learned anything from this year, it is that life is truly unpredictable.

If you had told me that this year I would be sitting in my room in Ottawa, in March, self-isolating during a global pandemic- I would NOT have believed you.

If you had told me that someone from my past that I thought I would never see again, would show up and become, of all things, my friend- I would NOT have believed you.

If you had told me that this year that I would have to move out of my house in November, leave behind friendships that I cherished, and start fresh with new roommates- I would NOT have believed you.

And yet… here we are.

I have said it before and I will say it again- EVERYTHING happens for a reason.

This year I started off crashing to rock bottom and then slowly, I climbed my way back up to the light. I have learned about myself, who I want to be, who I want to surround myself with, who my friends are and what I value most.

But most importantly, I made FOUR new best friends.

When I moved into 35.5 st. Mary’s St, Antigonish… I was broken.

These girls helped put me back together.

They have been there since day one and I needed to make this post for them.

Dear Girls of 35.5,

This year has been one of the absolute best years of my life. It has been a year of growth, kindness and love.

I have you all to thank for that.

When I needed someone, you all were there to catch me and lift me back up to my feet. You all truly saved me.

I will cherish the memories and bonds we’ve made. I will always remember the late night study sessions and freak outs at our kitchen table. I will laugh about our nights out that we would piece together in the morning over crepes and pancakes.

I will cherish the nights of watching the bachelor in my room, all squished together on my bed, laughing about how maybe one day that will be us. Thank you for being the girls that I can rely on and look to for advice. You are all leaders and I look up to you in every regard.

Thank you for laughing at my terrible jokes and for convincing me to go out on the nights I would have rather stayed in. Thank you for helping me choose what to wear and for giving me your honest opinions. Thank you for sharing my love of Taylor Swift and belting her songs at the top of our lungs together.

Now here comes the sappy part…

Olivia, thank you for being my best friend. For having my back throughout it all, for taking me in, for loving me, for laughing with me and for being unapologetically yourself.

Grace, thank you for being my best friend. For never failing to make me laugh, for being the life of the party, for listening and telling the best stories and for being unapologetically yourself.

Zandie, thank you for being my best friend. For always having the answers, for your kind heart that is made of pure love and joy, for your contagious smile and radiant attitude and for being unapologetically yourself.

Jules, thank you for being my best friend. For being the person I can always count on, for listening to my rants (and ranting with me), for making me laugh until I cry, for being my partner in crime, for knowing me as well, if not better, than I know myself and for being unapologetically yourself.

There is a quote that I have kept close to my heart since high school, and I think it perfectly encompasses to my time at 35.5:

“you gave me forever within the numbered days, and I’m grateful”.

Although our infinity ended sooner than we had hoped, you all have impacted my life for the better. I hope you all know how amazing, smart, strong, beautiful and kind you are.

I am proud to call you all my friends.

Cheers to a fantastic year, to a group of girls that will change the world, to a life that keeps me on my toes, and to the next time we will all get to be together again (it better be soon).
